Logistics

Photo: An apprentice does a safety check on a lorry. As a logistics apprentice you will be able to do a real and productive job, whilst receiving first-class training towards LGV licence acquisition and industry-specific, nationally-recognised qualifications.

You will have the opportunity to achieve professional competence in logistics and learn how to work more

What will I learn?

The course will cover the practical and theory aspects of logistics such as:

  • Monitoring the loading of the vehicles by others
  • Completing pre-driving preparations
  • Maintaining the safety and the security of the load, self and property
  • Maintaining awareness of driving conditions
  • Operating the vehicle systems
  • Driving the vehicle on public roads
  • Driving the vehicle in restricted spaces

You will also learn the importance of Health and Safety and the benefits of promoting good customer service.

In addition you will follow Key Skills qualifications in Communication and Application of Number, which are related to English and Maths qualifications.

What do I need?

Good organisation, enthusiasm, motivation and an ability to work with the general public are desirable. And you must have no more than 3 penalty points on your licence.

How long is the course?

Up to two years part-time.

How will I know how I’m doing?

Work-based assessment, plus driving assessments and testing.
