Vehicle Parts

Interested in motor vehicles but don't want to repair them? Does selling appeal to you?

Photo: A close-up shot of a vehicle motorMotor vehicles are made up of thousands of components and the supply of these parts for repairs is a key factor in the daily operation of the motor trade. With the increasing complexity of vehicles and new technology being developed all the time, there is a constant demand for highly trained people to work in the parts distribution industry.

The job involves taking orders, locating and supplying parts, stock control as well as dealing with customers. So, if you've ever considered a career in vehicle parts, this Apprenticeship will give you the skills and experience needed for success.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to contribute to and successfully run a vehicle parts operation. In addition to an NVQ Level 2 in Vehicle Parts Operations, you will also complete relevant key skills and a technical certificate.

What do I need?

Level 3 - 3 GCSEs grade C or better. Must pass assessment test if below C. Companies sometimes set entry requirements.

How long is the course?

This is an 18-month course, with a mix of full-time employment in a vehicle parts department, block release at College and online learning.

How will I know how I am doing?

You will be continually assessed in College and at your workplace and complete a portfolio containing evidence of your work. You will also complete online assignments and have online tutorials with your course tutor.

How will this help me in the future?

Once qualified, you can continue to work in the industry, developing your practical skills and knowledge. There is also a range of career opportunities you could follow such as parts manager, after sales manager, managing a parts factory or even running your own business.
