Careers and Further Study

When their course ends, your son/daughter will progress according to their needs, skills and interests. We will offer them advice and guidance to help them choose the right steps forward, whether that's:

  • Progressing to another course
  • Going to university
  • Choosing to study an Advanced Apprenticeship
  • Moving directly into their chosen career
  • Approximately 90% of our A Level students apply for university courses, including our own range of HE courses.

Alternatively if your son/daughter wishes to start work, he/she will be offered help searching for employment. We provide one-to-one appointments with a team of experienced careers advisers.

What qualifications will my son/daughter need to go to university?

A Levels, BTEC National Diplomas and other vocational qualifications equip young people with the qualifications they need for university.

Around 500 of our students each year go on to study at universities across the UK, from Aberystwyth and Oxford to University of the West of England and University of Bristol. Whilst many go with A Levels, others have studied a variety of courses. For example, a number of our Public Services BTEC National Diploma students have gone on to Degree courses in Sociology and Criminology.

Preparation for university

We support all our students with their UCAS applications and personal statements, and students can also attend dedicated UCAS drop-ins, UCAS fairs and university open days. In addition, we offer more than 40 career-focused, university level courses in partnership with University of the West of England, Bath Spa University, Plymouth University and University of Gloucestershire.

We’re particularly keen to support Level 3 students who might not have considered university but clearly have the ability to succeed. Extra funding may be available to help with costs for UCAS and visiting universities for interviews.

We also offer university master classes and summer schools. We work closely with local universities to tie in with their participation schemes and subject specialist seminars. We offer UCAS workshops to all our tutors.
