CAD: AutoCAD 2D Advanced City of Bristol College

The next steps in 2D AutoCAD.

This a flexi-course, which you can start at any time. You will have one year to complete the course which typically takes about 90 hours in total, coming when it suits you. It will help you build on techniques learned from the CAD: AutoCAD 2D Essentials course, or expand your existing AutoCAD knowledge.

On completing this course, you will be able to edit and create 2D drawings more efficiently, using advanced features such as Paperspace and Block Attributes. You will be taught by an industry-experienced, Autodesk-Certified Instructor.

Who is this course for?

This course is for intermediate 2D AutoCAD users looking to become more efficient in their use of AutoCAD for 2D drafting or technical drawing.

What you'll learn

During this course, you will learn how to use key features of AutoCAD to more efficiently produce and edit 2D CAD drawings. You will learn: layering, the use of text and dimension styles, creating and editing attributed blocks and how to use Paperspace. You will also learn dynamic inputs and grips and how to rename and purge.

Course entry requirements

You need previous experience of CAD in 2D for this course. This can be from industry, or from our CAD: AutoCAD 2D Essentials course.

You will need a working understanding of English and Maths and the ability to use Windows-based computers confidently.

Entry interview

You need to attend an interview – in person or by phone. Phone interviews can be arranged, as necessary; call 0117 3122703 or email CAD@cityofbristol.ac.uk.

If you want a college-based, in-person interview, sessions are on Wednesdays at the College Green Centre, during term time, in room 6E22H, at 16:00.

You do not need to book, just sign in at reception and allow upwards of an hour, just in case you visit us during a busy time. Other times can be arranged, simply call, or email as above.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

This course is a flexi-course which allows you to attend college as and when you can. Once enrolled, you can tailor your course timing to suit your needs. The course typically takes about 90 hours to complete, which must be done within a year of starting – how quickly is up to you.

You will be assessed through tests at the end of the course, as set out by City & Guilds. If successful, you’ll receive a nationally recognised CAD qualification, along with an Autodesk ATC Certificate of Completion confirming your achievement.

Future career and study opportunities

After successfully completing this course, you will be equipped with the core skills and knowledge to use AutoCAD in 2D – to effectively and efficiently produce CAD work in a variety of fields and office environments.

You can progress onto other CAD courses on offer, typically: Revit, Inventor, or Solidworks.

Enrolment on the course entitles you to download a free copy of AutoCAD, for educational purposes, from Autodesk. It is assumed that you already have a suitable computer to use this on. If you can’t / don’t want to use the College’s CAD Windows computers. Mac computers can be used, simply call / email for further information.
