Accounting City of Bristol College

This one-year, 6.5-hour-a-week course will give you an AAT qualification in accounting. This Level 3 qualification is universally-respected and internationally-recognised. You will finish the course with extensive practical accountancy training. You will build on your existing bookkeeping knowledge. You will learn how to prepare final accounts for sole traders and broaden your understanding of management reporting.

Who is it for?

This course is for students who have already achieved the AAT Accounting Level 2 Certificate or those who may have relevant workplace experience.

What you'll learn

The Level 3 Diploma will introduce you to increasingly complex finance office procedures and the professional ethics of working in an accounting environment. This will include the preparation of final accounts and VAT returns, management reporting and spreadsheets. During the course you will be required to complete six core modules: advanced bookkeeping, final accounts preparation, management accounting, indirect tax, ethics for accountants and spreadsheets for accounting.

Entry requirements

You must have already achieved the AAT Accounting Level 2 Accounting Certificate or completed an accounting entry test. You must have a minimum of Level 2 in Numeracy and Literacy (tested prior to the start of the course). Anyone wishing to gain direct entry to Level 3 through a qualification other than AAT Accounting Level 2 Certificate, or studied with an alternative training provider, will be required to attend an interview with a tutor prior to the start of the course.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

You will be assessed via AAT computer based unit assessments, plus a synoptic assessment.

Future career and study opportunities

Upon successful completion of the AAT Accounting Level 3 Diploma, you may have the opportunity to progress to: Level 4 Accounting Diploma or Higher Education (NB: AAT Accounting Level 3 Diploma will give 160 UCAS points).

Additional costs

You will need to pay an annual AAT Membership fee of £92. Students registering for the first time will also need to pay an one-off administration fee of £43. If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
