Business Administration Certificate City of Bristol College

An 18-week business administration course for adults in Bristol.

This short, part-time course will introduce you to business administration. It can help you improve your skills, change career direction or return to work after a break.

The business administration course will help you to increase your employability and improve your confidence. If you do not already hold a level 2 IT qualification, the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) element will improve your ICT skills which are now essential in any working office environment.

The administration and ECDL course is taught for three days per week (15 hours). Two days will consist of the administration course and one day will be the ECDL. You can study at our College Green Centre or South Bristol Skills Academy.

Who is this course for?

This business administration course is for people aged 19+.

The course is especially designed and structured towards adults who:

  • are unsure of their career options at present
  • need to build up skills and confidence to progress to further training, apprenticeships, or employment opportunities.

This administration course is suitable for adult learners who want to return to the workforce, gain a recognised qualification or want to increase their chances of employment.

What you'll learn

You will attend college for three days a week and, as well as gaining a qualification, you will gain an understanding and experience of:

  • business administration skills
  • developing personal confidence
  • health and safety in the workplace
  • ICT
  • literacy and numeracy.

Course entry requirements

You do not need specific qualifications to attend this course. However, you must:

  • show a willingness to attend regularly
  • be able to maintain good timekeeping
  • be eager to learn new skills
  • enjoy working with others from varied backgrounds.

Before undertaking this course, you will be required take an English assessment to ensure this course is the correct level for you.

You have to be aged 19+ to join this course.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

You will be assessed in a number of different ways, and receive regular feedback in reviews to guide your progress.

Some of the ways in which your success could be measured are:

  • attendance
  • folders of the work you do
  • group work
  • photos
  • assignment work
  • observations
  • practical work.

The ECDL element is an examination-based course with exams being taken at the end of each module. There will be four exams in total. 

Future career and study opportunities

You will gain skills and experience which will help you progress to employment.

You could also start to focus in more depth on the areas of work that interest you, completing units towards higher level qualifications which lead on to further opportunities. This could include:

  • Applying for and obtaining a full- or part-time job
  • An apprenticeship
  • Further Education.

Additional costs

There is a fee for this course. However, you may be eligible to study for free if you receive certain benefits.

There is also an additional of £360 fee payable to ECDL to join this course – this is also free if you are on benefits.
