Who is this course for?
Ideal for students passionate about set, stage, or production design and who want to bring stories to life through space and atmosphere.
What you'll learn
Set design, stagecraft, technical drawing, prop making, spatial design, 3D visualisation, and collaborative working.
You’ll also explore how digital tools like AI and sustainable materials can help to design sets that are both innovative and environmentally conscious.
This pathway is one of 5 pathways within our Applied Design practice programme, which covers the design principles, techniques and processes that can be applied across a wide range of design disciplines. Along with the specific pathway skills you can opt to follow, you will also learn the skills that are essential in design using traditional and digital methods. You will also immerse yourself in a range of design software (including Adobe, Infinity Studio, Canva, AutoDesk, Blender, Figma) and learn how Artificial Intelligence can be used in the design processes to create design products.
Course entry requirements
5 x GCSEs at grade 4 or above, or a Level 2 equivalent in a relevant subject. You will have gained either English and/or Maths at GCSE Level 4 or above, or Level 2 Functional Skills in English and/or Maths.

How is the course delivered and assessed?
All assessment is through coursework – there are no exams.

Additional costs
We provide the basics, but you may need to purchase additional art materials from our on-site art shop.
Students from low-income households can apply to the Learner Support Fund for help with these costs.
