This one-year, full-time Level 1 Barbering qualification will help you build the foundations to begin an exciting career.
You will learn all about the requirements for working in the Barbering industry and its exciting opportunities. You will work in our modern college salons to practice your skills in a realistic environment.
You will develop the knowledge and skills you need for the next level of learning, employment or an apprenticeship.
Who is this course for?
This course is for young people aged 16-18. You should be keen to develop and progress, in your learning and personally.
If you have a passion for hair and for men’s fashion then this will be the starting point for your career as a Barber.
What you'll learn
This Level 1 course will give you the basic knowledge, skills and experience in the Barbering industry. You will also build your confidence and your communication skills when working with our clients.
You will learn about the Barber industry and the skills required to gain your Level 1 barbering qualification. This will include:
- The Health and Safety of Barbering
- Styling Men’s Hair
- Consultation for Styling
- Shampoo and Condition Men’s Hair
- Working as a team
Course entry requirements
To join this course, you need English and maths at either GCSE grade 2 and achieve a BKSB initial assessment of working towards level 1 functional skills at Induction or Functional Skills Entry Level 3.
Alternatively you may have successfully completed a vocational qualification at Level 1 or Entry Level 3.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
This course is delivered in modern salons and classrooms.
You will have practical workshops as well as work in our realistic college salons which are open to the public for your Barbering sessions. During these sessions you will develop your Barbering skills and be assessed working on clients.
You will also have theory lessons where you will gain the required knowledge and understanding and will demonstrate this knowledge through a mix of online assessment and assignment work.
Future career and study opportunities
You will be required to purchase a Barbering kit and a uniform at a total cost of approximately £190
If you are on a limited income, you may be able to receive help from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
As a City of Bristol College student, you may incur additional costs to attend your course. For example, it is likely you may need to pay for travel and stationery.
Many courses offer learning opportunities that you may need to pay for. This may include things like study visits and visiting speakers. We will let you know in advance if there will be additional costs.
To keep everyone safe, we’ve reduced the number of people in our buildings at one time. Most of our courses are online for the time being.
