Barbering Level 2 for school leavers City of Bristol College

This full-time, one-year Level 2 course will help you begin an exciting career in barbering. It is also suitable for students advancing from a Level 1 course in hairdressing or barbering.

You will learn all about the industry and its exciting opportunities. You will work in our modern salons to develop skills in cutting and styling men’s hair.

This Level 2 Barbering course is for school leavers aged 16-18.

Who is this course for?

This course is for young people aged 16-18, who want to turn their interest in barbering into a creative, practical and sociable career, with lots of opportunities to progress and develop.

Level 2 will suit you if you have some experience in the barbering industry and you want to be a Junior Barber. If you have a passion for hair and for men’s fashion then this will be the starting point for your career as a Barber.

What you'll learn

You will learn about the Barber industry and the skill required to gain your Level 2 barbering qualification. This will include:

  • The Health and Safety of Barbering
  • Cutting Men’s Hair
  • Styling Men’s Hair
  • Consultation for Cutting and Styling
  • Shampoo and Condition Men’s Hair
  • Cut Facial Hair

Course entry requirements

To join this course, you need three GCSEs, including English Language at grade 3 (D) or Functional Skills at Level 1 or higher.

You must have a keen interest in the subject, good communications skills and be able to demonstrate an excellent record of attendance and punctuality.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

This course is delivered in modern salons and classrooms.

You will have practical workshops as well as work in our realistic college salons which are open to the public for your Barbering sessions. During these sessions you will develop your Barbering skills and be assessed working on clients.

You will also have theory lessons where you will gain the required knowledge and understanding and will demonstrate this knowledge through a mix of online assessment and assignment work.

Future career and study opportunities

You can go on to complete a Barbering Apprenticeship or a Level 3 full-time Barbering qualification. With these qualifications you can gain employment in a barbers or be self-employed.

Additional costs

You will be required to purchase a barbering kit at a cost of £159.50. 

If you are on a limited income, you may be able to receive help from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.

As a City of Bristol College student, you may incur additional costs to attend your course. For example, it is likely you may need to pay for travel and stationery.
