Beauty Therapy Level 2 Certificate for adults City of Bristol College

A 34-week, part-time beauty therapy course for adults aged 19+.

You will be taught for one day a week during term time which may include an evening.

The course will prepare you to progress your career in beauty therapy. You will develop the professional knowledge and practical skills you need to work as a beauty therapist in a variety of settings.

Who is this course for?

This course is for adults aged 19 and over who want to turn their personal interest and enthusiasm for beauty into a professional career as a beauty therapist.

You should enjoy working with people, in a team environment and individually, and understand the important of working professionally to achieve excellent standards of work and customer service.

Learners must be prepared to work on each other and clients for assessment purposes

City & Guilds require professional dress code, which includes:

  • Full uniform – tunic
  • Closed-toed shoes
  • No nail extensions or gel nails
  • No eyelash extensions
  • Jewellery permitted is one pair of stud earrings and one wedding band
  • Kit is required for every session and to practise at home

What you'll learn

A career in beauty therapy can be varied, practical, creative and people-focused.

On this course you will gain techniques and product knowledge in order to carry out a wide range of beauty treatments including:

  • manicure
  • pedicure
  • facials

You will also gain theoretical knowledge so that you can work to professional standards in beauty therapy and related industries, including anatomy and physiology, health and safety, client care and communications.

Course entry requirements

To join this course you need: 

  • GCSE Grade 3 (D) or above in Maths and English

or

  • Functional Skills Level 1 or above in Maths and English

or

  • to take an initial assessment and achieve a result of Level 1 or above in Maths and English.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

You will learn in our excellent professional salons and treatment rooms, with the expert guidance and support of our highly experienced staff. You will have opportunities to work with real clients and paying customers.

The course is delivered over 5 hours per week for 34 weeks which may include an evening.

You will be assessed continually throughout the course, through practical and theory assessments, assignments and online tests. There is no final exam.

Future career and study opportunities

When you complete the course, you could progress to a Level 3 course to extend your skills, knowledge and career prospects, for example in Beauty Therapy Techniques.

You can also progress onto our ABT gel manicure course, at your own cost.

Alternatively, you could go directly into employment in a range of settings such as salons, spas or mobile.

Additional costs

You will need to buy the college uniform and the beauty therapy kit which costs approximately £150 in total.

If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
