Course overviewBeauty Therapy Techniques Level 3 for adults City of Bristol College
This part-time, one-day-a-week course will give you skills and knowledge to help you find employment within the beauty industry. On completing the course, you may also choose to further develop your education.
This course is for adults aged 19+.
Who is this course for?
This course is for adults aged 19+ who have a vested interest in the industry, who want to turn their personal interest and enthusiasm for beauty into a professional career as a beauty therapist.
You should enjoy working with people, in a team environment and individually, and understand the important of working professionally to achieve excellent standards of work and customer service.
What you'll learn
During this course, you will have the opportunity to learn how to use advanced electrical equipment suitable for the face and the body, for example: micro-dermabrasion, microcurrent, vacuum suction.
You will also gain in-depth knowledge of the human anatomy in order to carry out some key industry skills used in spas and salons. This includes:
- Swedish massage
- Full body massage
You will also learn about promoting products and services, and you will develop excellent customer care skills, so that you can consult and advise clients effectively.
Course entry requirements
To join this course, you must have completed the Level 2 Beauty Therapy Diploma.
You should have GCSE Grade 3 (D) in Maths and English.
If you do not have GCSE Grade 3 (D) in Maths and English you will need to complete an assessment. During this assessment you will need a minimum result of Level 1 in Maths and English, if you have not studied with City of Bristol College before.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
You will learn in our excellent professional salons and treatment rooms, with the expert guidance and support of our highly experienced staff. You will have opportunities to work with real clients and paying customers, and you will take part in national beauty and photographic competitions, where you will refine and showcase your skills and creativity.
You will benefit from our excellent links with local employers and you will have opportunities to put what you learn into practice through work experience at a minimum of 36 hours a year. We have a number of guest speakers to inspire and encourage our students, these include: Steiner, De’cleor and professionals from local successful businesses.
You will be assessed continually throughout the course, through practical and theory assessments, assignments and online tests. There is no final exam. If you study English and Maths, these subjects will be assessed by exams.
Future career and study opportunities
When you complete the course, you can seek employment in a range of settings, for example, in salons, spas and on-board a cruise ship.
Alternatively, you can progress to Higher Education and university. You could also join one of our short specialist courses to build your portfolio of professional skills, for example Gel Polish or Indian Head Massage.
You will need to buy your uniform which costs £32.
If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
To keep everyone safe, we’ve reduced the number of people in our buildings at one time. Most of our courses include sessions taught at the college supported by online learning.
