Bricklaying Level 2 for school leavers City of Bristol CollegeThis one-year, full-time programme of study will help you develop your brickwork skills. You will learn how to plan, set out and build solid and cavity walls and structures. This course will provide you with industry-standard skills to work as a bricklayer.

Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for 16 -18-year-olds who want to develop skills and knowledge in bricklaying.
What you'll learn
You will learn the basics of construction. This includes the roles and responsibilities of various other trades and construction professionals. You will also learn about the documentation and methods of communication that are used within the construction industry.
Key areas covered are: solid brick and block walls and brick piers. You will interpret working drawings to set out masonry structures and gain practical experience of thin joint masonry and masonry cladding.
You may also be required to study Maths and English as part of your course if you are progressing from Level 1.
Course entry requirements
4 x GCSEs at 3 or above including maths and/or English or equivalent or a Level 1 qualification in a relevant subject.

You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

How is the course delivered and assessed?
This is a full-time course. Alongside your College tutorials, you will be required to take part in work experience and self-directed study.
You will be assessed in a number of different ways and receive regular feedback in reviews to guide your progress. Some of the ways in which your success will be measured are attendance, exams, online assessments, practical assessments and a portfolio of work.
Future career and study opportunities
On successful completion of the course, you could apply for an apprenticeship in bricklaying.
Additional costs
As a City of Bristol College student, you may incur additional costs to attend your course. For example, it is likely you may need to pay for travel and stationery.
You will need your own protective footwear for practical sessions, and will also need to buy a workwear uniform. You may also need a high visibility vest, protective goggles and gloves for some tasks. We offer some equipment which is free for you to use in College.
If you are on a limited income, you may be able to receive help from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
