Course overviewCAD: Level 3 (Funded) City of Bristol College
You can start this flexi-course at any time. You have a choice of two of three modules to complete. You can cover two key CAD softwares in the same course: Inventor and AutoCAD. Alternatively, you can just concentrate on AutoCAD in 2D and 3D.
The modules available are: Advanced Inventor, AutoCAD 2D, or AutoCAD 3D. You will be taught under the guidance of an industry-experienced, Autodesk-Certified Instructor.
Who is this course for?
This course, for adults aged 19 and over, is for loan fundable AutoCAD and Inventor intermediate candidates. You’ll be looking to continue from CAD: Level 2 (funded), or wanting to get into CAD with the benefit of a funded course.
What you'll learn
You will complete two modules on this course. For details of the module content for AutoCAD, see the web pages on:
In the Inventor module you cover topics such as:
- generating advanced assemblies
- Sheet Metal and Weldments
- mating and fastening in complex parts/assemblies
- table-driven parts and assemblies
- photorealistic presentation

- animation creation
Course entry requirements
To join this course, you must have an enthusiasm to learn about Inventor and/or AutoCAD, as well as fit the ‘funded’ characteristics.
Ideally, you will have completed the CAD: Level 2 (Funded) and/or have experience in using the software for the modules you choose i.e. Inventor and/or AutoCAD. It is helpful, but not essential, to have a working understanding of English/Maths and the ability to use Windows-based computers confidently.
Book an interview
You need to attend an interview session. Interviews are on Wednesdays, at College Green in room 6E22H, at 16:00.
You do not need to book, just sign in at reception and allow upwards of an hour, in case it’s busy.
Other times can be arranged if necessary, call 0117 3122703 or email CAD@cityofbristol.ac.uk.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
This course is a flexi-course which allows you to attend college as and when you can. Once enrolled, you can tailor your course timing to suit your needs. The course takes around 180 hours to complete, which must be done within a year of starting – how quickly is up to you.
At the end of the course module you will be assessed through tests, as set out by City & Guilds. If successful, you’ll receive a nationally recognised CAD qualification, from City & Guilds, along with an Autodesk ATC Certificates of Completion confirming your achievements.
Future career and study opportunities
After successfully completing this course, you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to use AutoCAD, or AutoCAD and Inventor at more advanced levels.
This could well help to start you on, or enhance your current path, towards a career using 3D CAD for product/mechanical design or in the construction industry in general. You can opt to progress to other CAD Room courses on completing this course e.g. Solidworks, 3ds Max, Fusion360, or Revit.
There are no additional costs for this course. Enrolment on the course entitles you to download free copies of Inventor and AutoCAD, for educational purposes, from Autodesk.
