Additional information
Who is this course for?
This course is for fundable AutoCAD beginners and Inventor intermediates. You will be looking to continue on from the CAD: Level 1 (funded) course, or want to get into CAD with the benefit of a funded course covering two key software programs used widely in industry.
What you'll learn
During this two-module course, you will learn the essentials of operating AutoCAD, see the course CAD: AutoCAD 2D essentials for details on this module. In the other module you will be broadening your knowledge of Inventor, covering topics such as: using equations in sketch geometry, advanced sketch features, creating and using work features, creating table driven parts and assemblies, understanding motion and driven assembly constraints, presentation drawings / displays and their export.
Course entry requirements
To join this course, you will need to have an enthusiasm for learning about Inventor/AutoCAD and must fit the ‘fundable’ profile.
Ideally you will have completed our CAD: Level 1 (funded) course, or have equivalent experience. It would be good to have: a working understanding of English and Maths, the ability to use Windows based computers confidently and an interest in 3D industrial/product design.
Knowledge of another CAD program can be of benefit, but is not required.
Book an interview
You need to attend an interview session. Interviews are on Wednesdays, at College Green in room 6E22H, at 16:00.
You do not need to book, just sign in at reception and allow upwards of an hour, in case it’s busy.
Other times can be arranged if necessary, call 0117 3122703 or email CAD@cityofbristol.ac.uk.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
This course is a flexi-course which allows you to attend college as and when you can. Once enrolled, you can tailor your course timing to suit your needs. The course takes around 120 hours to complete, which must be done within a year of starting – how quickly is up to you.
At the end of the course module you will be assessed through tests, as set out by City & Guilds. If successful, you’ll receive a nationally recognised CAD qualification, from City & Guilds, along with an Autodesk ATC Certificates of Completion confirming your achievements.
Future career and study opportunities
After successfully completing this course, you will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to use key features of both Inventor and AutoCAD – to start you on, or enhance your current path, towards a career requiring 3D mechanical / product design and the production of associated 2D production drawings. Once completed you can opt to progress to other CAD courses on offer in the CAD Room e.g. Solidworks, 3ds Max, Fusion360 and Revit. CAD: Level 3 (funded) is a logical next step.
Additional costs
There are no additional costs for this course. Enrolment on the course entitles you to download free copies of Inventor and AutoCAD, for educational purposes, from Autodesk.
