Are you a practising manager or aspire to a career in management? This course will develop and enhance your toolkit of management and leadership skills.
Our Level 5 programme has been developed to promote good practice in the workplace by providing a professional qualification for students who are practising managers or who wish to move into management positions. The qualification links to the NVQs in Management at Level 5 and forms part of a professional qualification pathway for managers.
Who is it for?
The Extended Diploma course is specifically aimed at people from a wide range of different workplaces. Successful students on this course have come from all sectors of the economy, cover a wide age range and have varied educational backgrounds.
It is not essential to be in a management role already, but it is important to be in a job role where you can draw on your workplace experiences and knowledge to be able to apply the content of the course.
What you'll learn
You will study nine units to complete this qualification including:
- Personal development as a manager and leader
- Information based decision making
- Practices of resource management
- Meeting stakeholder and quality needs
- Conducting a management project
- Managing ideas and innovation
- Plus 3 other units
To join the course, you must have a good standard of English and Maths and you may have a range of qualifications, or gained experience in your professional role or other relevant training.
- Full or part-time employment (continuous voluntary/charity role could be considered too) NB: This condition must be met.
- Level 4 qualification in any discipline
- Some experience in a supervisory/managerial/coaching/mentoring role (1-3 years)
Please note, if one of the conditions 2 or 3 is not met a candidate will need to be interviewed.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
The course will be taught and assessed using a variety of methods which will include:
- Case Studies
- ViVa Voce
All modules are assessed by coursework, there are no examinations. Some modules are assessed by an assignment based on the workplace, others are based on case studies or practical tasks. A typical assessment for a unit would be a report into observed styles of leadership. Most reports have suggested a word count of 3,000 words.
Future career and study opportunities
This course progresses naturally to the CMI Level 7 Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership. Some students may also choose other routes such as CIPD in Human Resources or Marketing.
