Who is this course for?

This programme is open to any adult and there are many funding opportunities, please contact the student admin team or come in at one of the college sites to discuss with Student Services. This is a classroom, once a week course and students are expected to conduct independent study outside of the classroom. The course also requires students to use A.I ethically when writing reports and submitting their work – this will be discussed in class.

What you'll learn

This programme is designed to teach you the knowledge, skills and understanding of the fundamentals of Computing and Cyber Security pathways. You will investigate the accidental and malicious security threats that exist to IT systems and data. You will also learn about system vulnerabilities and the tools and techniques used to protect users from risks and potential damage, including loss of data, loss of data integrity and unauthorised access to data.

You will also investigate website design and plan, design and create your own website in response to a client brief. You will test and refine the website against the client brief and review their own performance. In the programming unit learners will learn about the principles of computer programming to understand how programming works. You will develop text-based programming skills to design and develop their own computer program. the qualification you will achieve: Extended Certificate in Digital and IT Skills.

Course entry requirements

There are no formal qualifications that are required.

Applicants are expected to have a level of English and Maths so you can write reports, presentations and participate in practical’s. You would also be expected to be digitally confident, although no formal computing qualifications are required.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

Students are expected to study in college (at College Green Campus) one day a week.

The course is delivered across a number of units which are sequenced and structured to build upon each other and utilise the knowledge of the prior to inform the next.

You will be creating reports, presentations and conduct practical’s etc. to evidence your learning and to submit to strict deadlines for each unit.

Future career and study opportunities

Successful completion of this course can lead to further study opportunities within Cyber Security Development, possible the L3 in Cyber Security.

The qualification also enables progression into a variety of entry or junior roles and/or careers such as a Network Engineer and Security Intelligence Officer. This qualification is also designed to enhance confidence and soft skills, such as, working in teams, problem solving, communication and time-management.
