Who is this course for?

This course is for learners who are looking to develop skills and knowledge to progress into employment or apprenticeships.

As a full-time student at City of Bristol College, you will follow a study programme consisting of a vocational course, Maths and English, employability skills, work experience, volunteering and topical talks.

Course entry requirements

•  4 x GCSEs at grades 3 including Maths and English, or a previous vocational qualification.

•  Completed a Level 1 course in catering.

However, if you don’t have any formal qualifications, don’t worry, simply let us know and we can assess you to ensure that you will be able to perform well on the course. We will invite you to a course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice and guidance about the course you have applied for.

This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to tour our excellent facilities and ask any questions you may have.

You will be asked to provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or a relevant professional. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

To complete this course, you must complete all selected units and pass the following assessment:

Each of the selected units is assessed using:

• Question papers
• Assignments
• A practical exam

You will also have to complete weekly self-directed work outside of college.

Future career and study opportunities

You may also go on to gain employment within the catering and hospitality industry.

You may also go on to gain apprenticeships in the catering and hospitality industry.

You could progress to one of the Level 3 courses offered at City of Bristol College.

Additional costs

To join a catering course, you will need to purchase a uniform pack. This pack contains:

• Chef white
• A selection of knives and other relevant small equipment
• Safety shoes
• Restaurant uniform

The cost of this pack is discussed at the Course Information Meeting (Interview). If you are on a limited income, you may be able to receive help from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.

There will be additional costs for trips, which will be discussed at the Course Information Meeting (Interview).
