Course overviewEarly Years Practitioner Diploma City of Bristol College
This one-year Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner qualification will provide you with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years. You will complete ‘knowledge’ criteria in assignments at college and ‘skills’ criteria at placement.
This qualification prepares you to become a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner. You will complete 14 Units and a Placement Portfolio alongside 250 placement hours.
This course is for school leavers aged 16-18 years old.
Who is this course for?
This CACHE Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner course is for young people aged 16-18 who are working towards a career in early years education and care for children from birth to age seven.
What you'll learn
You will cover Early Years Practitioner topics such as:
- Health and safety of babies and young children in the early years
- Equality, diversity and inclusive practice in Early Years Settings
- Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children in Early Years Settings
- Understand how to support children’s development
You will need to need to complete 250 hours work experience during the course. This will support you to apply your knowledge and skills in a work environment.
Course entry requirements
To join this Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner course, you will need four GCSEs at a minimum of Grade 3 including English and maths.
You will also need a satisfactory reference from school or work experience and complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check before you join the course.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. ‘Knowledge’ based outcomes will be taught and assessed in college. ‘Skills’ based outcomes must be achieved with reference to a real work environment and must include direct observation within the workplace.
Future career and study opportunities
This CACHE Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner allows a learner to count towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner across the Early Years Workforce.
Learners may work under supervision in a variety of roles such as:
- nursery practitioner
- classroom assistant
- pre-school practitioner.
This qualification allows progression on to the Level 3 Early Years Educator qualifications and other relevant Level 3 qualifications relating to early years and child care if maths and English are secured at a Grade 4 or above.
