ESOL for Adults City of Bristol CollegeWe offer a range of part-time courses for adults whose first language is not English. Our courses are very popular, many students return year after year to progress up the levels.
This part-time course will help you develop your English skills. City of Bristol College is the largest provider of ESOL courses in Bristol.
You can study from Pre-Entry all the way to Level 2. We have courses in three different sites in the city and you can study at a time that fits with your life: mornings, afternoons or evenings. We have extra writing courses and maths classes too.

Who is this course for?
This course is for adults whose first language is not English.
It can help improve your confidence which will help make life in the UK easier whether you are looking for work, want to find a better job, help your children with their homework or just to talk to your neighbours and be confident to visit the doctor without a translator.
If your first language is English, you may be interested in our Adult English courses.
What you'll learn
You will learn vocabulary and grammar and develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
Students can study for College ESOL exams and ESB ESOL exams as well as Functional Skills Maths qualifications.
Course entry requirements
You do not need any formal qualifications for this course. However, in order to join you will need to have an initial assessment to establish your level of English and Maths.
You will also have a discussion with one of our ESOL team to decide which course is most appropriate for you.
Please note, this course is for adults whose first language is not English. If English is your first language, you can apply for an Adult English course.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
You will be taught and assessed by our specialist teaching team throughout the duration of your studies.
Students work towards a College Certificate or ESB ESOL Award, depending on their ability.
ESOL courses will be delivered by blended learning this semester with a minimum of 50% of your learning online.
Future career and study opportunities
Students who pass ESOL Level 1 will be ready to progress to vocational courses in the College. Those who pass Level 2 can progress to Functional Skills English or GCSE English.
