Furniture Maker T Level – Year 1/2 (2 Years) City of Bristol College

This Craft and Design T Level specialises in Furniture Making.

Over the two years, you’ll learn to design, prototype and construct functional and creative furniture using professional materials and methods.

We provide essential art/digital materials. You may need to purchase extra resources or equipment. Support is available via the Learner Support Fund.

What you'll learn

Core units include research, ethics, creative industry contexts and planning.

The occupational specialism focuses on material testing, component creation, construction techniques, and full furniture realisation.

You’ll also be introduced to how AI and sustainable materials can support future-facing furniture design.

Course entry requirements

Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including both English and Maths (or Level 2 Functional Skills in both subjects).

How is the course delivered and assessed?

Assessment includes:

– Two core exams
– An employer-set project
– Occupational specialism assessments (e.g. “Make Furniture to Specification”)
– Industry Placement Includes 315 hours of industry experience – we can help match you with an employer, or you can find your own

Future career and study opportunities

Progression into creative apprenticeships, degree-level study in product or furniture design, or employment in cabinetmaking, workshop production, or joinery.

Additional costs

We provide basic art and digital resources, but additional materials may need to be purchased individually.

The Learner Support Fund is available to help students from low-income households cover these costs.
