Who is this course for?
If you are interested in design for print, interactive media, contemporary design or arts then this course could be for you.
You need to be excited by experimenting and exploring print based outcomes and digital media, as well as having an enthusiasm for well-crafted typography.
What you'll learn
The key themes running throughout this Foundation Degree are contemporary visual culture and awareness.
Over two years, you will develop graphic design outcomes across a range of media and explore a range of diverse vocational concepts listed below. The emphasis is on creative practical projects and building a design portfolio that you can use vocationally to either present to potential employers or continue with your higher education pathway.

Course entry requirements
To join this course, students typically need 56 UCAS points made up from:
- A BTEC National Diploma in a related subject
- AS/A2 (including a related subject or subjects)
- A full Access Diploma in an appropriate pathway
- Mature applicants with relevant experience and/or related qualifications are welcome to apply
- All existing skills and potential will be considered at interview

How is the course delivered and assessed?
All assessment is continuous and will typically be by coursework, group work, presentations and practical assignments and projects. Methods include group critique, presentations and peer discussions and evaluations.
You will be supported throughout with individual and group tutorials.
Future career and study opportunities
Upon completion of this course students will be prepared for employment within relevant industries e.g. graphic design, advertising, packaging design and development, internet design and motion graphics.
Successful completion of the Foundation Degree is broadly equivalent to two years undergraduate study. Students completing the FdA may progress on to the final year of BA (Hons) Graphic Communication with Typography at the University of Plymouth or apply to a local University of their choice.
A Mac compatible portable hard drive will prove useful for storage.
