Course overviewHealth, Fitness and Exercise Instruction Level 2 City of Bristol College
This one-year, full-time course will help you gain knowledge about health and fitness, combined with the skills you learn, will give you a great start of your career. You will be qualified to work as a professional Fitness Instructor, Indoor Cycling Instructor and Circuit Training Instructor. If you want to become a fully qualified Personal Trainer, you can progress to our higher-level courses.
Who is it for?
This course is for young people aged 16-18. If you are passionate about staying fit and healthy, and you can see yourself in a career where you achieve their fitness goals and a healthy lifestyle, this could be the perfect course for you.
What you'll learn
You will develop an excellent understanding of how to build and maintain health and fitness through exercise and a healthy lifestyle. You will learn how the body operates and understand the benefits of a balanced diet. You will learn how to plan and instruct fitness sessions in the gym and group exercise sessions, for a range of clients and a variety of exercises. You will also learn how to motivate and communicate with your clients. If you have not gained a grade 4 (C), in GCSE English or maths, you will study these subjects at the right level for you, either as Functional Skills qualifications or as GCSE resits, if you already have a grade (D).
To join this course you will need three GCSEs at grade 3(D) or above in Maths, English and Science, or a Level 1 Sport and Health Certificate at Merit grade or above and Functional Skills Level 1 in English and Maths.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
You will learn from teachers who work as professionals in the fitness industry. You will be assessed through assignment-based presentations and practical tests. If you study English and Maths, these subjects will be assessed through tests and exams.
Future career and study opportunities
You could progress on to one of our higher-level courses to extend your skills and career prospects in the fields of personal training, outdoor activities or public services. Alternatively, you could seek employment as a Fitness Instructor, Indoor Cycling Instructor or Circuit Training Instructor, or perhaps seek and Apprenticeship to further your training while working. You will need to buy a uniform/gym wear, gym membership, and contribute to the costs of educational trips. This will be approximately £280 for the year. If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
