Instructing Group Exercise: Indoor Cycling YMCA Award City of Bristol CollegeThe purpose of the course is to enable learners to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to professionally prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective group exercise programmes within a studio setting (Indoor Cycling).
Learners will study group exercise with Indoor Cycling which will be listed on their certificate. Completion of these qualifications allows learners to access jobs instructing group exercise classes/sessions for their chosen discipline.

Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone aged 16+ who already has a Level 2 Gym Instructor Qualification and wants to further their career through group exercise whilst gaining continuing professional development.
What you'll learn
You will learn how to plan and deliver safe and effective group exercise through Indoor Cycling.
Course entry requirements
4 GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including Maths and/or English or a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject plus GCSEs in Maths and/or English, or a Functional Skills qualification in Maths and/or English.
We will invite you to a Course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.
Some Level 2 Technical qualifications may require a slightly higher entry requirement based on the specific content of the course. This may include having English or Maths at a Grade 4

Learners must be aged 16 plus at the point of certification. Ideally learners should have some experience of participating in exercise through personal practice as they will need to take part in group exercise as part of these qualifications. Learners should also have communication skills, pitched at Level 2, which can be further developed during the course.
To be eligible to complete our Level 2 Award in Group Exercise Instructing, learners must have previously completed a qualification endorsed against one of the following CIMSPA professional standards:
- Gym Instructor
- Core Group Exercise Instructor
- Strength and Conditioning (Trainer)
How is the course delivered and assessed?
The course will be delivered partly in a class room setting and in the Hengrove Leisure Centre Indoor Cycling Studio.
You will need to provide a portfolio of evidence (Learner Assessment Record) and be observed whilst teaching an indoor cycling class.
Future career and study opportunities
Our Level 2 Award/Certificate in Group Exercise Instructing can lead to employment as a group exercise instructor.
These qualifications can also lead to further training at the same or higher levels.
