This full-time, one-year course will give you a broad understanding of computing as well as giving you the chance to study some areas of IT and Digital Technologies in more depth.
This course is offered at our South Bristol Skills Academy. It is suitable for anyone aged 16+.
Who is this course for?
This course is for anyone who wants to learn the necessary basics to pursue a career in computing or IT.
What you'll learn
This course covers a broad range of computing specialisms designed to give you relevant up to date knowledge and skills to progress in the tech sector. You will engage with practical activity and develop technical skills which can be used at industry and at higher course levels. During this course you will cover both software and hardware aspects such as development, networking and cyber security.

- Working as an IT Support Technician
- Web Development
- Using The Internet
Course entry requirements
To join the course, students need to be working at least Level 1 in English and Maths. We will use an initial assessment support you if you haven’t got an English or Maths qualification at Level 1.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
You will be assessed throughout the course by completing tasks. The units are all marked internally and are graded Pass, Merit and Distinction.
Assessment will cover technical applied knowledge and skills, enabling you to demonstrate knowledge and competency. You will receive guidance and support from your teachers to enable you to develop and improve ahead of each assignment.
Future career and study opportunities
This qualification is designed to give you a practical understanding of the computing and digital tech sector, and the routes available in the industry. As a Level 2 qualification, the common progression is on to one of our Level 3 Computing programmes such as the Level 3 Diploma. There are also other routes available to more creative sectors such as Games Design and Digital Graphic Design.
This course is free for anyone aged between 16-18. There is no formal kit list for consumables. If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
Learner who are 19+ and do not already have a Level 2 qualification will also be funded.
