Law and Practice Level 3 City of Bristol College

This evening course will introduce you to the legal profession. It will help you start your career in the legal sector or continue to higher-level study.

The year-long course is taught four-hours-a-week. You can work towards a certificate in your first year.

You may choose to study for a second year, which will lead to a diploma. This is a recognised legal qualification from the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx).

You may also choose to study individual modules.

Who is this course for?

This Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice is for adults looking to work in the legal profession.

It provides education and training for people wishing to work in the legal sector. You will have the opportunity to gain a nationally-recognised qualification and to secure employment.

What you'll learn

The topics you may cover on this course include:

If you wish to gain a certificate (this takes one year), you will need to study:

  • Introduction to law and practice
  • Client care
  • Legal research
  • Criminal Law
  • Criminal litigation.

To gain the diploma (this takes two years), you will need to study all certificate modules. In addition, you will study:

  • Contract
  • Tort
  • Land law
  • Employment law
  • The practice of employment law.

Course entry requirements

You will need a GCSE in English at Grade C (4) or above to join the course.

It is beneficial to have experience in the legal profession.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

The courses is delivered in different modules. It starts in September and January and runs for one year. You will be taught on one evening per week for four hours.

If you wish to only take certain modules, you can do so.

The certificate course is assessed by three exams and two lots of coursework.

The diploma is five exams. The exams are sat twice each year either in January or June.

Future career and study opportunities

Upon successful completion of the CILEX Level 3 Certificate in Law and Practice , you may have the opportunity to continue and work towards the CILEX Diploma at Level 3 and/or a paralegal apprenticeship.

Additional costs

In addition to course costs, you have to pay a membership fee to CILEx and are responsible for your exam fees.
