Level 1 Award in Land Based studies (Animal Care) City of Bristol CollegeYou will learn about looking after animals in our specialist animal centre. Alongside your vocational topics, you will study English and/or Maths if required.
The course starts on 2nd December 2025 and ends on 27th June 2026.

Who is this course for?
For students joining a course later in the year, this provides an opportunity to study at Level 1 and progress to the full-time Level 1 Certificate, provided the specified criteria are met.
You will be expected to have successfully completed a vocational Gateway course before enrolling onto the Level 1 Award; however, if you already hold suitable qualifications, you may be considered eligible on an individual basis.
What you'll learn
You will be expected to have achieved three GCSEs at Grade 3, or to have completed a vocational award at Merit level. If you do not achieve Merit, you will be required to successfully complete a vocational Gateway course, which runs until the end of November.
Course entry requirements
Three GCSEs at Grade 3 or above including English, Maths and preferably Science. Qualifications can be considered on an individual basis for this course.

How is the course delivered and assessed?
Teaching will be delivered in the classroom and you will also have the opportunity to carry out hands on practical work in the Animal Centre. You will be assessed by a series of practical tasks and written assignments throughout the course.

Working in the industry or leading onto our Level 1 Certificate, if meeting our progression criteria.
