In this Level 2 course you will gain a recognised trade qualification without the need for full employment.
You will learn using our excellent modern, fully equipped workshops and classroom facilities. You can study this course at our Motor Vehicle Technology Centre at Parkway.
This course progresses from the Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles Level 1 certificate.

Who is this course for?
This course is for young people aged 16-18 who have completed the Level 2 certificate.
There is an option for 19+ learners to also gain a full Diploma qualification in Motor Vehicle in one year.
What you'll learn
On this course, you will learn not only the practical skills in Motor Vehicle but also the theory behind the units achieved.
These units are: health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment, supporting job roles, removing and replacing light vehicle engine, electrical, chassis and driveline.
Course entry requirements
4 x GCSEs at 3 or above including maths and/or English or equivalent or a Level 1 qualification in a relevant subject.
We will invite you to a Course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

How is the course delivered and assessed?
This course is assessed through theory tests and practical assessments on all the units listed.
Future career and study opportunities
After successfully completing this course, you can enter employment or choose to complete an apprenticeship. You can also move on to our Level 3 Diploma in Maintenance and Repair.
Additional costs
You will need to provide safety boots, protective clothing, work gloves, writing equipment, calculator and paper. If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
From September 2023, students on all motor vehicle courses will be required to purchase and wear a uniform in College. You will receive more information about this, including cost and how to purchase, at your induction.
