Maintenance Operations (Construction) Level 2 for school leavers City of Bristol College

This one-year programme of study is for people aged 16-18 who want a career in the maintenance industry. This course will provide you with invaluable industry-standard skills sought by employers. Taught by an experienced teaching team, the Maintenance Operations Diploma Level 2 course will develop your existing knowledge and skills in carpentry, plumbing, painting and decorating and building maintenance.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for 16 -18-year-olds who are keen to learn, or develop their knowledge and skills in order to start a career in the field of maintenance.

What you'll learn

You will develop the fundamentals of carrying out small-scale plastering, plumbing, painting, building decorating and carpentry repairs. You will also learn all about health safety and welfare in construction ranging from legislation to fire safety to accident reporting.

Course entry requirements

You will need GCSEs at grade 3 (D) in English and Maths and one other technical subject e.g. Carpentry, Art, Resistant Materials.

You will also need a good record of attendance and commitment at school or College.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

This is a full-time course. Alongside your College tutorials, you will be required to take part in work experience and self-directed study.

You will be assessed in a number of different ways and receive regular feedback in reviews to guide your progress. Some of the ways in which your success will be measured are via attendance, online exams, practical assessments and a portfolio of your work.

Future career and study opportunities

On successful completion of the course you could apply for an apprenticeship in the maintenance operations industry or obtain employment.

Additional costs

As a City of Bristol College student, you may incur additional costs to attend your course. For example, it is likely you may need to pay for travel and stationary.

You will need your own protective footwear for practical sessions. You will also need to buy a workwear uniform. You may need a high visibility vest, protective goggles and gloves for some tasks. We offer some equipment which is free for you to use in College.

If you are on a limited income, you may be able to receive help from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
