Make up and Hair Level 1 (Pathway 4)

This course is for young people aged 16-18.

If you have a passion for working with people and you are keen to develop your Make up and Hairstyling skills then this is the course for you.

This Level 1 course will give you basic knowledge, skills and experience in beauty. You will also build your confidence and your communication skills when working with clients.

You will learn about the make-up and hairdressing industry and gain your Level 1 Make-up qualification. This will include:

• Health and safety in the salon/make-up studio
• How to present yourself professionally to meet industry requirements
• Working with others in the hair and beauty industry
• Introduction to skincare
• Basic make-up application
• Themed face painting
• Styling women’s hair
• Plaiting and twisting hair

Students are expected to have all treatments performed on them by other students, and to model other students’ work.

3 x GCSEs at Maths and English at grade 2, or a previous vocational qualification. However, if you don’t have any formal qualifications, don’t worry, simply let us know and we can assess you to ensure that you will be able to achieve well on the course.

We will invite you to a course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to tour our excellent facilities and ask any questions you may have.

You will be asked to provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

Collaborate with peers, practising and modelling on each other for Level 1 training that prepares you for success in Level 2 and beyond.

This qualification opens doors to allow you to progress on to Level 2 full-time programmes in Hair and Media Make Up, Hairdressing or Beauty.

With these Level 2 qualifications, you can work in a Hairdressing or Beauty salon, become a self-employed Makeup Artist, or advance to a Level 3 full-time course in your chosen field.
