Manicure City of Bristol CollegeThis four-week course is for adults who want to build their profile of skills to start a career within the beauty/nail services industry or add to the range of treatments they offer as a practising beauty therapist. You will cover filing, shaping, cuticle work, massage and applying polish over four three-hour sessions with a qualified beauty therapy lecturer to allow plenty of time for you to practise and receive feedback on your technique.

Who is this course for?
This course is for adults aged 19+ who want to expand their skills in beauty therapy, whether or not they already work in the industry.
What you'll learn
Over the four sessions you will learn:
- Health & Safety
- Professional products available for a manicure service
- Contraindications, diseases and disorders
- Anatomy and physiology of the nail
- How to carry out a consultation
- Filing and cuticle work
- Exfoliation and mask
- Hand & arm massage technique
- How to apply nail polish
- Aftercare advice
Course entry requirements
You will need to be able to read and communicate using spoken English so that you can carry out a consultation and be able to take notes during classes. Students should therefore have GCSE English at grade 3(D) or Functional Skills Level 1 or equivalent.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
The course is delivered through practical demonstrations followed by the opportunity for students to carry out the treatment and the lecturer to provide feedback. You will also learn the theory required to achieve your qualification.
Future career and study opportunities
After completing this course, you could progress to Level 2 Pedicure ABT Certificate and then Level 2 ABT Gel Polish Certificate. When you achieve all three of these certificates, you could progress to Level 3 NVQ in Nail Services and work in the nail services industry offering manicure, pedicure and gel polish.

No additional beauty kit is required for this course. All equipment will be provided.
