What you'll learn
Nail treatments are hugely popular treatments which are core services delivered by most beauty salons, nail bars, spas and hotels, and also as treatment offered in other settings where beauty and complementary therapies are delivered to aid relaxation and well-being. In addition to enhancing the appearance of nails through the application of tips, nail services can keep skin smooth, improve nail health, increase blood circulation and aid relaxation.
You will learn about hand, foot, leg and arm anatomy and the important factors which may prevent different treatments and being able to identify it. You will learn how to analyse, improve and maintain the condition of skin and nails. You will also cover application of nail art using a variety of products and techniques and you will learn to apply tips with acrylic and gel overlay.
Other areas you will cover includes: manicure, pedicure, hand and foot massage as well as the importance of safe application and storage of chemicals before, during and after use.
To join this course, you will need a grade 3 (D) or above in GCSE English or alternatively a Level 1 Functional Skills.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
You will need to dress appropriately to work safely and professionally, in a college uniform, with flat closed dark shoes, minimal jewellery and long hair tied back. All nails must be bare when you arrive in class, so that you can practice on them.
You will be assessed on this course through online exams and a number of practical assessments to complete.
Future career and study opportunities
When you complete this course, you will be able to offer this treatment to paying clients, either to begin or extend your career in beauty therapy. Former students have gone on to open their own salons, work independently and they have previous been successful at college and national competitions.
You will need to buy a uniform which costs £32 as well as a nail kit which is approximately £310. If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
To keep our students and staff safe, we’re reducing the number of people in our buildings at one time.
To achieve this, most of our courses will include sessions taught at the college supported by online learning to help you reach your full potential.
