Who is it for?
This course is for adults aged 19 and over, who have an interest in learning more about correct nail care professional salon standard skills.
What you'll learn
Nail treatments are hugely popular treatments which are core services delivered by most beauty salons, nail bars, spas and hotels, and also as treatment offered in other settings where beauty and complementary therapies are delivered to aid relaxation and well-being.
You will learn about nail anatomy and the important factors which may prevent different treatments and being able to identify it. You will learn how to analyse, improve and maintain the condition of nails. You will also cover application of nail art using a variety of products and techniques and you will learn to apply tips, including stiletto tips, with acrylic and gel overlay as well as sculptures and French tips.
Other areas you will have the opportunity to participate in include the creation of your own nail art designs and carry out the safe and correct use of an electric file. You will also learn about the health and safety implications and correct use and storage of chemicals necessary for this course.
To join this course, you will need to have completed the Level 2 Nail Services as well as hold a GCSE grade 3 (D) or above in English or Functional Skills Level 1 or equivalent.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
You will need to dress appropriately to work safely and professionally, in a college uniform, with flat closed dark shoes, minimal jewellery and long hair tied back. All nails must be bare when you arrive in class, so that you can practice on them.
You will be assessed on this course through online exams and a number of practical assessments to complete.
Future career and study opportunities
When you complete this course, you will be able to offer this treatment to paying clients, either to begin or extend your career in beauty therapy. If you took the course for personal interest, and now want to develop professionally, you might be able to progress into self-employment, salon management and mobile salons.
You will need to buy a uniform which costs £32 as well as a nail kit which is approximately £310. If you are on a limited income, you may be eligible to receive help with these costs from our Learner Support Funding Bursary.
To keep our students and staff safe, we’re reducing the number of people in our buildings at one time.
To achieve this, most of our courses will include sessions taught at the college supported by online learning to help you reach your full potential.
