NOCN Level 2 Groundworker Apprenticeship City of Bristol College

The Level 2 Groundworkers Apprenticeship, delivered by City of Bristol College in partnership with NOCN, provides learners with essential skills and knowledge in groundwork construction.

This course covers practical and theoretical elements, including excavation, concreting, setting out and site health and safety. Apprentices will gain hands-on experience working with tools and materials while learning to interpret drawings, install drainage systems and prepare foundations.

Designed for those starting their construction career on already in construction groundwork, this apprenticeship equips learners with the qualifications needed to progress in the industry, supporting both professional development and opportunities for further education and employment within the construction sector.

What you'll learn

This apprenticeship will cover the knowledge, skills and behaviours required in groundworks duties and the following practical areas:

  • Working safely in a Groundworks environment, developing and using efficient working practices to provide the high-quality work
  • Using technical drawings and specifications to ensure all work is Health & Safety compliant to regulations
  • Gain intuition for Interpreting and following Work Instructions
  • Build a complete understanding of for the safe usage, transportation and storage of resources; including power tools and hazardous substances
  • Practically understand the mixing of materials and working with concrete, understanding major issues that can affect materials including drainage and subsidence
  • There will be optional areas that can be discussed with your assessor

Course entry requirements

 Applicants must have achieved a GCSE grade 1 or Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and English and be willing to work towards a Functional Skills Level 2.
