This part-time, eight-week foundation course is for those who wish to build confidence in dealing with PC components and networks or start their career in IT support.
This practical course gives an opportunity to build, diagnose and rectify basic hardware/software faults in a supported and safe environment. It provides a framework to assist in analysing users needs in order to specify an appropriate system while raising awareness of manufacturing and purchasing compatibility issues.
Who is this course for?
This course is for enthusiastic beginners who want to build, maintain and rectify faults with PC equipment and basic networks. It is suitable for individuals wishing to enter the PC servicing and networking industry, who want to become PC technicians and home PC users.
What you'll learn
During this eight-week course you will develop your understanding of the PC and its operation through theory and practical activities. You will cover topics such as general microprocessor principles, assembling and testing a PC, demonstration of fault finding tools, principles of storage devices and interfaces and home and small office networking.
Course entry requirements
To join this course, you will need an interest in IT servicing and repairs or the desire to continue onto recognised vendor qualifications.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
This course will be assessed through a multiple choice test at the end.
Future career and study opportunities
After successfully completing this course, you can progress on to the Comptia A+ course before progressing on to one of the Cisco courses or onto the Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate Windows 8.
