Course overview
Performing and Production Arts Level 1 City of Bristol CollegeAre you a budding performer that is keen on developing skills and working in the exciting and creative world of performance and production? If so, then this practical one-year course is designed to allow you to broadly explore the world of performing arts arts practice across several disciplines including theatre, stage and screen.
You will also develop performance abilities and explore your creative and imaginative skills. The programme is set using practical units that give students the opportunity to work within different aspects of the subject as well as undertake assessments in a variety of different ways that suit your individual style and learning abilities.
This programme is a 16-18 Study Programme and as part of this, our aim is to support you to be working at the right level on your core qualification and are challenged to achieve the highest you can.
All students will continue to improve their Maths and English and if you don’t have a grade at GCSE in English and/or Maths, we will work with you towards achieving that goal through a retake or resit of the GCSE in English and/or Maths.
Employability will be part of your study programme and will complement your studies and prepare you for employment. You will also get involved in activities to help you to develop life skills and build your confidence so that you can make progress in your career through work experience, industry insights and live projects or activities.
Your weekly timetable will include tutorial support which may comprise of full group activities or one-to-one sessions to discuss individual progress or support needs with your course tutor and personal development coach.

Who is this course for?
If you are new to performing arts, it aims to enhance self-confidence and communication skills, along with providing an insight into career demands and opportunities within the sector.
What you'll learn
Students will explore materials, methods and processes that support performing and production activities and will begin to expand their skills. The content of the programme will cover areas such as acting, physical theatre, production design, planning performances and working as a team.
You will also develop broader core skills across organisation and communication and develop your own professional development plan

We will invite you to a course information meeting event where you will receive information, advice and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to tour our excellent facilities and ask any questions you may have.
You will be asked to provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional. This is to ensure that we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.
3 x GCSEs at Grades 1 to 3 including Maths and English, or previous vocational qualification.

How is the course delivered and assessed?
The course will be delivered at our South Bristol Skills Academy. All assignments are practically focused and will include performances, audio and verbal professional discussions and observational recordings of practical activity.
There will be elements of writing and communication that support your literacy.
Future career and study opportunities
Completion of this course and the relevant English and Maths will allow students to progress onto our Level 2 Performing and Production Arts course. You may wish to progress to other routes related in the industry exploring production skills including set design, production technical skills (lighting, rigging) or event planning.
Additional costs
There are no costs to this course and is free for all students aged 16-18
