Additional information

Who is this course for?

This course is for young people aged 16–18 who are interested in photography and want to develop their creative and technical skills. If you have had little experience with photography, this course provides the ideal starting point. You do not need to have any previous art qualifications to enrol.

We encourage our students to use recycled and up-cycled materials wherever possible for their coursework — such as used camera kits, props, and other resources — to promote sustainable creative practice.

What you'll learn

You will study the fundamentals of photography and digital media. The course provides opportunities to develop your technical and creative skills through self-evaluation, practice, and review.

You will also explore sustainable approaches to photography and the responsible use of AI technology.

AI is used to support students in generating creative ideas and enhancing their projects.

Course entry requirements

  • If you have completed a Level 1 qualification: you must have achieved a Merit or above.
  • If you have not completed Level 1: you will need a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above (including English and/or Maths preferred).

  • A portfolio of work or a clear interest in photography is also required.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

All assessment is through coursework, with an internally assessed portfolio of evidence. There are no exams.

Future career and study opportunities

This course prepares you to study Photography at Level 3, after which you may progress into university, entry-level employment, or a media apprenticeship.
