Our specialised programme equips apprentices with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the field of accounting and taxation. Through rigorous training, apprentices will develop core competencies to deliver accurate financial information, support business decision-making, and uphold professional standards.

Who is this course for?
This apprenticeship is for Professional Accounting and Tax Technicians looking for entry points into study with the accounting bodies fully recognising the international status of AAT qualifications.
The apprenticeship provides knowledge and skills for new accountants looking to follow a career in industry, commerce or practice and ultimately to strive to achieve Professional Accountant status with one of the awarding bodies using study exemptions allowed when you attain Level 4.
What you'll learn
You will complete a series of modules towards the standard covering knowledge, skills and behaviours. Topics covered include:
- Management Accounting Budgeting
- Decision and Control
- Personal Taxation.
You will further develop skills in financial / management accounting and taxation gained from your Level 3 studies to provide entry points into future study with the recognised professional accounting bodies within the UK or beyond.
You will continue to work within local industry or commerce while gaining further knowledge and skills.
You will work with your accounting apprenticeship trainer and employer to gain the knowledge and skills ready for your end point assessment and to demonstrate how these are put into a workplace environment.
Course entry requirements
To join this programme, you will need to be employed in a relevant role.
You will also need to hold 5 GCSEs including Grade 4/5 (C) in maths and English and an AAT qualification at Level 3.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
Your course will be delivered within City of Bristol College centres where you will be supported by specialist lecturers.
You will also be supported within your workplace towards the apprenticeship by a City of Bristol College accounting apprenticeship trainer. Your trainer will work closely with your employer and lecturers to ensure your programme provides the foundation for a successful career in the profession building on knowledge and skills gained at Level 3. They will also guide you to develop your portfolio in preparation for end point assessment.
You will also need to complete 20% off the job training which will consist of your class delivery in college and work outside your normal job role and any other off the job training which maybe set by your employer.
At the end of your apprenticeship you will complete an end point assessment which consists of a professional discussion supported by a portfolio of evidence.
