This Professional Photography Foundation Degree is delivered by City of Bristol College’s University Centre.
Who is it for?
Develop your creative and academic skills as well as your technical skills in photography.

We encourage the use of both digital and analogue techniques and this course uses its unique city centre location to maximise the creative opportunities on offer to you. We have established links with commercial photographers and studios, business support organisations, new web and press news services, innovative photography groups and organisations, exhibition spaces and visual festivals.

You will work on live briefs throughout the course, set by our industry partners, which link real-world experience with assignment work which often work to a tight deadline with feedback to fully reflect a working brief.
There are also written and research elements to each assignment, which encourage your thinking, reflection and project awareness. In your second year, you will research develop and write an extended essay.
Future career and study opportunities
On successful completion of the course, you may be able to progress on to the BA (Hons) Photography degree at Plymouth University or to a course at another university. Please note there is a deadline for progression applications and places may be subject to availability.
Many of our former students work in the creative industries in and around the city and many students go on to be independent freelance photographers.
Although we have an equipment store which can loan much of the necessary equipment to students, and the faculty supplies darkroom chemicals, the course requires significant use of other equipment and materials which must be supplied by the student.
Students can expect additional costs of up to £100 per practical module for consumables, plus students will need a Digital SLR camera and a computer with Photoshop or similar software which can be bought after starting.
The costs are an estimate depending on the direction of your individual project(s).
