This short, evening course covers the main studio photography genres including portraiture, still life, fashion and product photography and lighting.
Who is this course for?
This course is designed for anyone from competent beginner to professional looking to improve their studio photography skills for practical reasons e.g. for web content or artistic exploration and personal development.
What you'll learn
The course will begin with the basics and move rapidly through the studio genres – portraiture, still life, fashion and product photography. Also covered will be the application of lighting knowledge to location work using speed lights (portable flash).
You will study via a range of workshops/practical sessions and short lectures and the course will give you the opportunity to begin to develop a personal portfolio.
Please note some background reading may be required.
Course entry requirements
To join the course, you must have a keen interest in photography and able to bring along your own digital SLR camera to classes.
How is the course delivered and assessed?
There is no assessment, just learning through the creation of images.
Future career and study opportunities
For mature students with related experience it may be possible to progress to the Foundation Degree in Professional Photography in Partnership with Plymouth University.
You need your own camera and there may be printing costs required depending on how your work develops.
To keep everyone safe, we’ve reduced the number of people in our buildings at one time. Most of our courses include sessions taught at the college supported by online learning.
