Supporting Teaching and Learning Level 2 (16-18) City of Bristol CollegeThis course provides the knowledge and understanding needed to support children and young people in a school or college environment. It covers key areas such as child development, safeguarding, health and safety, equality and inclusion, behaviour management, and the structure and operation of schools.
Learners will gain the skills needed to support learning activities, work as part of a school team, and help create a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment. This course is ideal for anyone who wants to begin working in education in a support role, such as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant

What you'll learn
What you will learn includes understanding schools and colleges as organisations, as well as understanding children and young people’s development. You will explore safeguarding children and young people, alongside equality, diversity and inclusion in a learning environment.
The course also covers how to maintain relationships with children and young people and support their health and safety, while encouraging positive behaviour in a learning environment. In addition, you will learn how to contribute to teamwork in a learning environment, understand children and young people’s play and leisure, promote an effective learning environment, and provide displays in a learning environment.
Course entry requirements
4 GCSES grade 3 or above – including Maths and English
How is the course delivered and assessed?
This course is assessed through coursework and a portfolio of evidence rather than formal exams. Learners will complete written assignments and practical tasks to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. Evidence may include written work, professional discussions, observations in a real or simulated learning environment, and witness statements. Learners will build a portfolio throughout the course which is assessed by a tutor or assessor to confirm they meet the required standards.
