UAL Level 2 Award in Photography City of Bristol College

The UAL Level 2 Award in Photography is a 10-week course for adult learners to get more out of their DSLR camera. 

 

This course adopts a blended approach to learning with two 3-hour sessions per week, one of which is optional and online. Monday evening is a face-to-face session at our College Green Centre from 6.00pm until 9.00pm, and Tuesday evening is an optional 1-2-1 tutorial support session online via Microsoft Teams between 6.00pm and 9.00pm. 

 

It is expected that students will complete a small amount of independent study as homework on this course where photoshoots will take place.

 

Students will need their own DSLR camera and a computer with reliable internet access to complete this course.

Who is this course for?

This evening course is for adults aged 19+ who have a passion for photography and want to learn how to use their camera creatively to its full potential.  

Some adult learners may want to use this course to produce the portfolio of work required to apply for our HNC Photography course.

What you'll learn

The UAL Level 2 Award in Photography consists of two units.  

 

Unit 1 The Camera allows learners to explore the camera and its main settings. Students complete themed mini projects covering Shutter Speed, Aperture and Depth of Field, Manual Mode and ISO, and Focal Length & Lenses over 5 weeks.  

 

Unit 2: The Photographic Project see students building on the skills from Unit 1 to develop a self-initiated photographic project completed over 5 weeks. Research and Planning skills, Health and Safety and presentation methods all formulate a Photographic Project.   

Course entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements or interview for this course.

How is the course delivered and assessed?

The UAL Level 2 Award in Photography is delivered over 10 weeks. This course adopts a blended approach to learning with two 3-hour sessions per week, one of which is optional and online. Both Units 1 and 2 are assessed entirely by coursework with a pass or fail mark available.  

Future career and study opportunities

After successfully completing the UAL Level 2 Award in Photography, you could choose to apply for the full-time Level 3 Diploma in Photography.

Some adult learners may want to use this course to produce a portfolio of work required to apply for our HNC Photography course.

Additional costs

This course is eligible for funding for learners aged 18. For learners aged 19+ the course may be funded if you are in receipt of any benefits or in the low-income threshold. To find out if you qualify, please contact us and we can confirm.

Any learner wishing to do the course that is not funded, the cost for the course is £300.

Students will need their own DSLR camera and a computer with reliable internet access to complete this course. Additional costs include the printing of final photographic prints, or a photobook required for Unit 2.

As a City of Bristol College student, you may incur additional costs to attend your course. For example, it is likely you may need to pay for travel and stationery.

Many courses offer learning opportunities that you may need to pay for. This may include things like study visits and visiting speakers. We will let you know in advance if there will be additional costs.
