Music Production & Songcraft UAL Level 3 Music Performance

This course is designed for students who already have an interest in making music and want to take their skills further. You may see yourself as a producer, songwriter, artist, beatmaker, musician or creative collaborator. You do not need to fit into one role, and the course encourages you to explore different areas while developing your own individual strengths. It is suited to students who enjoy practical learning, want to create original work and are ready to become increasingly independent in how they develop ideas and manage creative projects. You should be prepared to experiment, collaborate, respond to feedback and take increasing responsibility for your own creative development.

 You will develop advanced practical, creative and professional skills across areas including: Music production using Logic Pro Songwriting, composition and lyric writing Arrangement and song development Recording vocals and instruments Mixing and production techniques Sound design and creative audio Developing original tracks from concept to completion Working with singers, musicians, producers and other creatives Responding to creative and industry-style briefs Building an artist or producer identity Creating artwork and visual content for music projects Understanding release strategies and self-releasing music Developing music for different contexts, including commercial and creative briefs Building a professional portfolio Presenting, evaluating and reflecting on your work

You will also explore emerging technology and the role of AI within creative practice. This may include AI-assisted tools within Logic Pro, Canva and other creative platforms. You will learn how these tools can support workflow, experimentation and idea development while considering originality, ethics and the importance of your own creative decision-making. Sustainability is also embedded within the course. You will consider how musicians, producers and creative organisations can work more responsibly, including digital workflows, use of resources, sustainable approaches to events and merchandise, and the environmental impact of creative careers.

5 x GCSEs at 4 or above, or a Level 2 in a relevant subject with either a 4 or above in their English GCSE or 4 and above in their Maths GCSE.

The course is delivered through practical studio sessions, workshops, collaborative projects, creative briefs and independent project work. You will regularly create music in professional studio environments and will be encouraged to work across different roles and disciplines. As the course progresses, you will take greater ownership of your projects, from developing an initial concept through to production, presentation and evaluation. Assessment is project-based and focuses on the creative work you produce throughout the course rather than traditional written exams. Evidence may include recordings, compositions, production sessions, portfolios, presentations, project planning and reflective work. Regular tutor feedback, peer discussion and review sessions will help you refine your work and develop a professional approach to your creative practice.

 Level 3 Music Production and Songcraft can support progression into higher education, apprenticeships, employment or freelance work within music and the wider creative industries. Level 3 Music Production and Songcraft Students will need access to a small amount of essential equipment to support their studio work, including suitable headphones and an external hard drive or storage device for saving and backing up projects. A full essential kit list will be shared before the start of the course. We want students to be able to access the equipment they need regardless of their circumstances. Bursary support and rent-to-buy options may be available to help with the cost of essential equipment.
