Have you ever imagined what it is like to be an animal? Maybe you have imagined a lion on the African savannas or a shark in the deep Pacific Ocean. Well, how about a pigeon?
Students from Circomedia, the Centre for contemporary circus and physical theatre, will be putting on a 60-minute-long performance at City of Bristol College’s South Bristol Skills Academy on 1 June at 7pm.
The performance, titled Amongst The Pigeons, will see students from the BA course exploring the ‘rats of the sky’ in a family-friendly show and features very little-dialogue so is perfect for those with hearing impairments. There is also wheelchair and guide dog access.
The show will take the audience on a journey through the ups and downs within the cemented walls of a car park, from the smallest moments to the most unbelievable, using aerial, acrobatics, juggling and live music.
With performers affiliated with The Gandinis, No Fit State and Cirque Bijou, the show is guaranteed to bring a smile to the audience’s faces.
Amongst The Pigeons is an outdoor theatre circus production and spectators will be required to bring their own seating to enjoy the show.
Circomedia has been a partner of the College since August last year and collaborates with the College to deliver the Extended Diploma in Contemporary Circus and Physical Theatre, the UK’s only two-year course of its kind. The provider has a long-standing history of circus in Bristol, founded in 1994 by Bim Mason and Helen Crocker, following the closure of Fooltime, Britain’s first professional circus school. Since 2004, Circomedia has been based in St. Paul’s Church at Portland Square and also has a site in Kingswood, which is home to the degree programme and the main office.
Speaking about the show, Assistant Director for Further and Higher Education, Alexandra Moruzzi, said: “Forming this partnership with Circomedia is a fantastic way to offer our students a new and exciting route into the world of performing arts. Amongst The Pigeons is one of many shows we will be supporting and students are looking forward to being able to perform in front of a live audience.”
Circomedia’s Amongst The Pigeons will be at South Bristol Skills Academy, off the Boulevard, on 1 June at 7pm.
Tickets, priced £3.50, can be booked online on the Circomedia website.
