City of Bristol College is proud to announce its new partnership with the West of England Institute of Technology (WEIoT), joining with South Gloucestershire and Stroud (SGS) College as their latest education partners.
Julia Gray, Principal and CEO of City of Bristol College, emphasised the significance of this step for the college, commenting: “Joining the WEIoT is a meaningful milestone for City of Bristol College, building on our previous involvement as an IoT+ member.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to equipping our students and staff with opportunities to thrive in a rapidly evolving skills landscape. Being part of this collaborative network enhances the value of our IoT programmes, aligning with our newly launched college strategy to contribute to the development of a sustainable, highly skilled workforce in the region.”
This partnership strengthens the college’s role in addressing regional skills shortages, particularly in higher-level technical education and expands opportunities for both students and employers to benefit from innovative, industry-aligned training.
Through the WEIoT, City of Bristol College will collaborate closely with other leading educational institutions, including Weston College, The University of the West of England, Bath College, Gloucestershire College and Yeovil College, alongside employer partners.
Gavin Murray, Deputy Principal for Quality & Curriculum of South Gloucestershire & Stroud College highlighted the importance of working collaboratively across region, saying: “We are incredibly proud to be part of the West of England Institute of Technology. This new partnership with South Gloucestershire and Stroud College marks a transformative step in advancing higher-level technical education and skills development within our region. By enhancing collaboration between industry, education and research, we will accelerate our collective ability to deliver cutting-edge, flexible learning pathways.”
Together, this network has already secured over £10 million in funding to drive higher-level technical skills development in response to the region’s economic demands.
The WEIoT’s forward strategy, which includes the launch of new construction courses from September 2025, further complements City of Bristol College’s efforts to address emerging skills gaps, particularly in areas driven by digital innovation and new technologies.
Claire Arbery, Director of the WEIoT, commented: “Over the past five years of operation, the IoT has developed a collaborative model across the region, bringing together colleges, employers and Higher Education providers to develop responsive courses that address local needs.
“Adding City of Bristol College and SGS to the partnership demonstrates the power of collaboration and how working together can positively benefit everyone. I am delighted that the colleges have decided to join the partnership and are willing to work together to promote technical education and higher-level learning.”
As part of the WEIoT, City of Bristol College will play a pivotal role in fostering a stronger connection between education, industry and research. By working together, we aim to provide students with the skills and expertise needed to thrive in the modern workforce while supporting the region’s long-term economic growth.
