College crowns Chef of the Year at Bristol Hoteliers Association awards ceremony

It’s hard to believe that another year has rolled around and Bristol Hoteliers Association’s Night of the Stars 2025 awards ceremony recently took over Ashton Gate Stadium.

It’s a yearly event; a crucial date in the calendar that celebrates all things hospitality, hoteliers and catering across our wonderful city. It unites independent businesses and large companies alike and is an evening full to the brim with jubilation and recognition.

It’s a yearly tradition for City of Bristol College to sponsor the prestigious ‘Chef of the Year’ award, an accolade that sees chefs take to the kitchen and cook up a storm in a bid to secure the award.

In the lead up to the awards ceremony, talented chefs descended on the City Restaurant at our College Green Centre for our Night of the Stars Cook Off; a competitive event that allowed the finalists for the awards to be selected.

The Cook Off boasted delectable dishes and a truly fantastic energy, paving the way for the official Night of the Stars award ceremony, some weeks later.

During the official awards ceremony, the college were in attendance, united in celebrating the local thriving hospitality businesses and to present the Chef of the Year award.

Anticipation was high for the finalists, who were as follows:

Alex Mitev
DoubleTree by Hilton, Bristol City Centre

Hien Thanh Nguyen
Delta by Marriott, City Centre

Ian Acosta
Marriott Royal

Jonathan Defreeze
Moxy

Molly Pownall

It wasn’t long before the award winner was announced as Ian Acosta from Marriott Royal and our very own Catering Lecturer, Ryan Fernandes took to the stage to present the award.

We extend a heartfelt congratulations to Ian for the well-deserved win!

We continue to work closely with the Bristol Hoteliers Association and hope to continue to grow this relationship that provides incredibly positive connections for our students within the hospitality industry.
