Empowering change as college hosts Women in Engineering Panel for International Women’s Day

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we were honoured to host a Women in Engineering panel event in partnership with the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE). It was an inspiring and insightful evening that hosted a panel of esteemed speakers and allowed space for people of all walks of life to connect and share ideas.

The panellists discussed the unique challenges that women in STEM face daily, such as the unfortunate need to constantly prove their abilities to be valued and trusted in the workplace.

We were also fortunate to hear them talk about the growing relevance of environmental and social factors and how these crucial areas are beginning to shape the future of many careers in engineering.

Amongst the panellists was Dr Marianthi Leon from UWE’s School of Engineering, who shared her fascinating career journey, Meg Ginsberg who plays a key role in ICE’s Women in Industry initiative to diversify degree apprenticeships and Phoebe Clayson-Lavelle, another strong advocate for the scheme who kicked off the wonderful evening.

Those who attended have commended the importance of events like this and the power of community in moving towards change.

City of Bristol College is proud to have been able to host the thought-provoking event and is also delighted to play a part in such an imperative and imoprtant discussion.
