Progress to Success Festival showcased professionals who ‘zig-zagged’ between careers

City of Bristol College’s Progress to Success event organised students at the centre of the planning, took place from 1-19 March. One of the Level 3 Business students, Hannah Haskins, was highly involved in the planning and marketing of the event.

This year has been like no other, studying and teaching has taken place remotely and many students have faced challenges. At City of Bristol College, the efforts and determination of our staff has supported our students to succeed on their study programme, enabling them to progress onto their next level of study.

The Industry Placement Team, My Future My Choice’s Polly Barnes, Hannah Haskins Level 3 student, Assistant Director FE and HE Alexandra Moruzzi and Business Administration Manager, Malgorzata Dreissig worked together to organise the annual Progression Festival.  The three-week event provides advice and guidance on progression opportunities.

Polly Barnes said: “Questions from students and staff ensured that the online festival was interactive and lively. It provided a range of information, a microcosm of the business community in Bristol and beyond, and feedback has shown all stakeholders learned from each other.”

The aim of the Progress to Success event was to develop the students’ thinking about progression, not only into a career but how they can ‘zig-zag’ by moving within the same industry or from one industry to another. We focussed on the skills development that can support students to progress on a spectrum throughout their careers.

The programme was varied and featured more than 28 guest speakers who shared their career path with both students and staff. It was also an opportunity to ask questions and pick the brains of industry professionals. All the sessions were interactive and can be viewed at Progress to Success 2021 | Microsoft Stream.

Level 3 Business student, Hannah, supported the promotion of the event and targeted our students with informative but fun TikTok videos. Hannah said: “Since January, I have been completing work experience with My Future My Choice to help organise the Progress to Success event. I have enjoyed a new approach to work experience by being able to work alongside an external employer and the College’s Industry Placement Team and, due to the current way of connecting with people, the entire event was online.

“The opportunity has led me to create strong bonds with potential employers such as Mrs Peaches Golding OBE and Kitchen Cosmetics and to grow my skills and confidence. By completing this, I was able to use my knowledge in my marketing campaign and most assignments. This year has been the most eventful one in my college life and the Progress to Success event has elevated this further.”
