A city of Bristol College student and professionally trained seamstress has brought her skills to the local area after fleeing war-torn Ukraine.
Mila Shkurat, an ESOL student at the college moved to Bristol from Sumy, on the Russian border as soon as it became occupied by Russian forces when the invasion first began over three years ago.
When her hometown came under heavy shelling, Mila decided to leave with her husband and two children and relocated to the UK, shortly before enrolling in an English ESOL course at City of Bristol College.
She has now settled in Portishead, on the outskirts of Bristol and has successfully launched a small business offering tailoring services which has proved to be incredibly popular with the local community.
“We miss the life, you know. I have lost everything and I miss everything,” Mila commented when speaking to the BBC.
But she said her new business has helped her to feel “useful”.
She continued: “People come to me, they smile, they love my job and it is most important to be useful here.”
City of Bristol College is incredibly proud that Mila is part of our college community and can’t wait to see what she achieves next on her incredible journey!
