Am I Eligible?
What Funding Can I Receive?
To be eligible, you must be:
- Aged 19 or over at enrolment
- Settled in the UK or have a pre-settled status
- Studying for an eligible qualification
- Able to demonstrate a low income or means tested benefit
– If you are 19+ living independently you must earn less than £24,455
– If you are 19+ and financially dependent on other adults in your household, your household income must be below £32,000
You will not be eligible if you are:
- A work based learner/apprentice
- Undertaking a higher education course
- Studying a full cost recovery course
- Studying a level 3 course that you paid for in full or instalments
For successful applicants aged 19+, help is available towards:
- Bus passes or other travel costs
- Course essential costs, such as uniform, equipment, books or trips
- Childcare
- Exam fees
- Professional membership needed to sit exams
Evidence (Whose and What)
If you are living independently, meaning you are not dependent on anyone else’s income, you will only need to provide income evidence for yourself.
If you are dependent on someone else’s income, for example you parents or partners, you must also provide financial evidence for them.
You must provide income evidence from the list below:
- P60 or 3 most recent payslips
- Full copy (totalling 6 pages) of the household’s Tax Credit Award notice
- Evidence of income e.g. audited accounts for self-employed people
- Evidence of asylum seeker status (ARC card or Home Office letter showing section 4 support)
- Award letter, or Benefit Office stamped application form, confirming being in receipt of one of the following benefits:
– Job Seekers Allowance (JSA)
– Employment Support Allowance (ESA)
– Guaranteed Element of State Pension Credit
– Income Support (IS)
– Universal Credit (can be an online statement)
EHCP
If you are aged 19-25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) you must provide evidence of a benefit in your own name to be entitled for Free College Meals.
If you require taxi travel to come into college, this must now be covered by your local authority.
If you have a Disability Travel Bus pass from your local authority (Diamond cards) they are now able to be used 24/7.
Disability Travel
If you live under 3 miles from your centre of study and have a condition which affects your ability to walk, we may provide funding for travel. This must be verified by your doctor. If you do not have a doctors letter, we can provide one for your doctor to complete.
We are able to fund bus passes, train costs and petrol contributions. If you have a medical reason preventing alternative travel, you may be eligible for taxi support.
Childcare
You may also be eligible for support with your childcare costs. In order to assess you for childcare funding we must receive a completed Childcare form and an LSF form, along with a copy of the child’s birth certificate or passport and the household income evidence.
We can only fund up to £60 per day per child.
