About Our Vocational Courses

We are Bristol’s vocational college, offering a huge range of technical courses.

Vocational qualifications give you professional knowledge, technical skills and work experience relevant to a particular career.

Vocational courses are a strong foundation for further study, training or employment.
You will be taught by specialist teachers who have professional and practical experience in their subjects.

You will learn through a mix of practical work and theory, mainly at college and, where relevant, in our specialist, industry-standard workshops and facilities.

The Types of Vocational Courses We Offer

BTECs

A BTEC is focused on practical, coursework-based learning in a specific area, often offered at various levels and study set ups which can lead directly to entry to the workforce on to further study.

They allow learners to apply their skills and knowledge to real-life scenarios.

T Levels

T Levels are a new type of qualification based in vocational, technical and hands-on subjects for students. They include a mixture of classroom-based learning and industry placements where students can put their new skills into practice in real-world scenarios.

NVQs

NVQ stands for National Vocational Qualification. It is a type of qualification that you can study in the UK and are designed to prepare you for a specific job.

NVQs are work-based qualifications and they are usually delivered in the workplace via on-the-job training.

You can also study for an NVQ if you are at school or college and have a part-time job or access to a relevant work placement.

HNDs and HNCs

HND stands for Higher National Diploma and HNC stands for Higher National Certificate. They are both forms of Higher Education qualifications.

They are a brilliant option for those who want to undertake specialised training in preparation for a particular career path, as well as for those who might want to progress on to a full three-year degree programme.

Foundation Degrees

A Foundation Degree is a Higher Education qualification that differs from a full degree in two main ways:

– A Foundation Degree is a shorter course, taking two years full-time and the resulting qualification is worth the equivalent of two-thirds of a standard Bachelor’s degree.

– A Foundation Degree is a combination of academic and vocational study. Unlike Bachelor’s degrees, which are often purely academic, a Foundation Degree always includes a practical and vocational element which is designed to train students for entry into a specific job or career path.
